Journal Title: Journal of Stomatology (Czasopismo Stomatologiczne) - Year 2010, Vol 63, Issue 11
Abstract
Introduction: Mandibular continuity reconstruction after tumour ablative surgery is crucial for maintaining both the form and the function of the lower part of face.Aim of study: To evaluate the suitability of titanium reconstruction plates as used to maintain the continuity of the mandible.Material and method: Retrospective analysis of the outcome of 17 patients treated in 2002 – 2010 years through the partial resection of the mandible due to locally advanced tumours of the oral cavity, in whom mandibular continuity was reconstructed by means of plates. Results: Therapeutic success was achieved in 11 out of 17 patients in spite of transitional complications. Reconstruction plates were removed in 6 cases. Conclusions: Reconstruction plates can be an alternative method of reconstructing the continuity of the mandible in selected clinical cases.
