Using of Ethnographic Communicatıon Codes in Turkish Television Movies As Popular Culture Product: An Example Of Dirilis “Ertugrul” Movie

Abstract

Culture, as it is known, affects human’s thoughts structures, behavior patterns and this situation plays role in formation of communication styles. Ethnographic communication examines person’s verbal and nonverbal communication form in context of cultural. It is possible to encounter with ethnographic codes in both real life and television screen. It can be reached to information about people’s values, clothing styles, communication styles, language features, norms, belief structures, rituals in especially television movies described a certain historical period. With these codes products using movies characters and reminiscenting that erahave become consumption tools. So popular culture is made as commercialization of culture. This study deals with ethnographic communication codes used in “Diriliş Ertuğrul” which is one of Turkish television movies according to SPEAKING acronym of Hymes. The purpose of study is that analyzing Turkish movies as product of popular culture in terms of ethnographic communication. In this way, the cultural context reading of codes such as clothing style, forms of speech, behaviors, communication tools of players in “Dirilis Ertugrul” movie is provided accurately.
