VISUAL SYMBOLS IN MAIDAN POETRY

Abstract
The article deals with the images and symbols of the Dignity Revolution poetry. The author traces the role of visual thinking in the folk traditions. The Dignity Revolution poetry has not been investigated yet, therefore, it is an actual theme. The relation between modern poetry and folk and myths has been explored. The aim of the investigation is the analysis of the system of symbols in Maidan Poetry and of national symbols as the basis of new literary works. The ob-ject of the investigation is the poetry written during the Dignity Revolution, the subject is the images and symbols and the peculiarities of their usage in the poetry. In the analysis, the comparative and historic, systematical and esthetic, and descriptive methods have been used. The scientific value of the investigation lies in the fact that the peculiarities of the authors’ poetic views during dramatic events have been described and the revolutionary poetry has been put in the rank of the typologically similar ones, one of the components of the genre creation of the poetry such as visual symbol-ism has been defined. The object of the investigation defines the scientific value as well, since Maidan poetry is a new phenomenon in the Ukrainian literary discourse of the 21st century and it has not been investigated conjointly. The ob-tained results can be used in the course of History of Ukrainian literature of the 21st century, in the optional courses of the Maidan poetry or Modern poetry, in the process of preparing for secondary or tertiary school classes, in further investigation of the Dignity Revolution poetry. The investigation proves that folk national symbols are mainly used in the poetry. In order to symbolize the strength and power of the nation, the revitalization of the country, its hope for bet-ter, the symbols of guelderrose, falcon, oak, crane, dove, daisy are used. The negative connotation is attached to the symbols of blood, death, raven, goshawk, papaver, cuckoo. The creation of typical maidan symbols has been observed. Such symbols are characteristic of the time of changes in the society. The author compares them with those in the works of the periods of Kozaks, Striltsi, war time and the struggle for independence. Such works are proved to be the sign of moral and psychological changes and the indicator of social breaks.
