Abstract
Recently, in connection with the global economic downturn, an effort to increase the resilience of tourist destinations is increasingly stressed. The tourist destinations should be able to withstand the unforeseen shocks, or respectively they should be capable of more rapid revitalization in the post crisis period. More attention is paid to the territory image strengthening, which often has in case of tourist destinations decisive influence on final choice in the selection and decision making process of potential tourists. The big challenge in the process of creating the optimal tourist strategy, therefore, remains a high degree of sensitivity to the full spectrum of intrusive and of- ten unpredictable impacts on the process of selection, complex nature of tourism product and complexity and heterogeneity of the individual elements of the environment in which tourism takes place. The given article describes key stages of Thailand tourism development and emphasises its crisis situations. Attention is paid to an analysis of the steps implemented in order to revitalize crippled tourism in the country due to internal political instability related with demonstrations, dissemination of epidemic respiratory disease SARS and devastating tsunami waves.
