WAYS OF CORRECTIVE WORK WITH THE STUNNING CHILDREN

Abstract

Stuttering is one of the most complex and long-running speech disorders which is characterized by a breakdown in the tempo, rhythm and smoothness of expressive speech, conditioned by the convulsive state of the muscles of the speech apparatus, with the predominant disruption of the communicative function. Stutter is characterized by multiple causes of emerging, a complex symptom-complex and in a number of cases by a low efficiency of treatment. The inconstancy of manifestations of stuttering gives the experts the hope to find a means or a way to retain, consolidate and expand the possibilities of free speech. This determined the aim of the study: to analyze the existing methods of stutter correction ‒ to find techniques, methods, means which would allow transferring the rudiments of stunning people’s free speech from the area of narrow, special conditions (for them) into an environment of natural communication with surrounding people. Summarizing the experience of previous authors, based on the results of our own research and practical work with stuttering children, we propose a complex approach aimed at realizing the main tasks that are being solved simultaneously. The designated approach presupposes: the introduction of bodily-oriented approaches to corrective work with stuttering children; the creation of the appropriate motor feelings and ideas in the process of uttering sounds, syllables, words, phrases, relating them to the place of articulation; explaining to the child the need to pronounce the words confidently, boldly, adhering to the right stress, without any jerks or tension, in accordance with the law of the least muscle effort; familiarization of children with verbal images of speech: auditory, motor, visual; the development of child’s courage not only by using articulation organs, but also non-verbal means of communication (gestures, facial expressions, etc.); the formation of general and speech breathing; the development of child’s correct observation, the ability to focus not only on his / her own person, but also on the environment, clearing child’s imagination from habitual images and pictures of fear, gradually replacing them by the images and pictures of courage acquired by daily success in speaking; the provision of everyday practice with speaking (at home and in a social environment), free from obsessive thoughts, obsessive fears, and ensuring the practice of bold behaviour. The purpose of the proposed games and exercises is to develop the integrative activity of the brain by using bodily-oriented approaches in psycho-corrective and developing work with children; to develop skills in using nonverbal communication methods; to develop the prosodic side of speech; to form general and speech breathing; to increase the child's self-esteem; to deprive him / her from anxiety and fears.
