Wear Rate Analysis of Hydrodynamic Journal Bearing In Different Conditions
Journal Title: International Journal of Modern Engineering Research (IJMER) - Year 2014, Vol 4, Issue 10
Abstract
Friction and wear always occur at machine parts which run together. This affects the efficiency of machines negatively. Hydrodynamic journal bearings are widely used in industry because of their simplicity, efficiency and low cost. Wear due to relative motion between component surfaces is one of the primary modes of failure for many engineered systems. Unfortunately, it is difficult to accurately predict component life due to wear as reported wear rates generally exhibit large scatter. An attempt has been made to study the influence of wear parameters like load, speed, type of lubricant used, temperature, and viscosity of lubricant. The main objective of the study is to evaluate the wear rate of different journalbearing materials (brass and white metal) under similar conditions. The materials are tested in dry and wet lubrication under similar operating conditions. For this purpose we use Pin-on-disc apparatus. It was found that the wear rate of both materials is more in dry conditions compared to lubricated conditions (when tested under similar working conditions). We also found that wear rate of white metal is more as compared to brass and higher frictional force is observed in case of brass material

ABSTRACT: Environmental pollution is the most terrible ecological crisis to which we are subjected today. Today the environment has become foul, contaminated, undesirable, and therefore harmful for the health of li...
Design, Simulation and Implementation of Flyback based, True Single Stage, Isolated, Power Factor Corrected AC-DC Converter for Solar Array Simulators
Presently most of the Power Factor correction circuits are based on boost topology. They consist of two stages, one being the power factor correction (pre-regulator) and later DC-DC conversion stage. This paper pre...
Enhance Example-Based Super Resolution to Achieve Fine Magnification of Low Resolution Images Using Neighbour Embedding Method
Images with high resolution (HR) often required in most electronic imaging applications. There are two types of resolution first is high resolution and other one is low resolution. Now high resolution means pi...
Seismic Vulnerability of RC Building With and Without Soft Storey Effect Using Pushover Analysis
A soft storey is one which has less resistance to earthquake forces than the other storeys; Buildings containing soft stories are extremely vulnerable to earthquake collapses, since one floor is flexible compared to othe...
