What can one know about family?

Abstract
The paper describes some epistemological dilemmas of a family therapist. Analysing cases of unexpectedly interrupted therapy processes, the author is searching for a path between engagement and intrusiveness, as well as between stability of an expert on the one hand and modest curiosity of a companion on the other. Referring to different roles which he assumes or attempts to assume in his work, the author clarifies the challenges confronted by a family therapist.
