What do future dietitians know about functional food?

Abstract
Functional food is becoming more and more popular nowadays, therefore this short questionnaire study was prepared to see whether young dietitians-to-be have the necessary knowledge to be able to use such food products with understanding to the benefit of their future patients. A 6-questions test was performed anonymously on 93 Dietetics students of the medical faculty of Jagiellonian University Medical College. It was surprising to learn that most students were able to answer only 3 out of 6 questions correctly, and that none of the final year students were able to answer question 6 about probiotics. This may signify a need to improve their knowledge, also within the studies curriculum.
