Abstract
Witold Staniewicz was a Vilniusian by birth, his family lived on district of Vilnius for generations. As adult he connected his life with Vilnius and local University. Soon as University was founded he started work as assistant lecturer, next he became a professor and a rector. In the work he devoted to agriculture and his economics. He aimed at modernization Polish agriculture not only as a scientist but also as a practician and as a minister. In the years 1926–1930 he was the minister of agriculture. As a rector of the University he always attempted at conciliation and so he usually was able to solve the problems, even the most difficult of them.
