Abstract
At the end of XX and the beginning of XXI centuries, due to the emergence of a large number of new terms and culture-specific concepts which require language designation, the sphere of information technologies and telecommunication becomes one of the main replenishment sources of the English and German languages with innovative units. The word-formation aspect has long been considered as an important part of the vocabulary structure study or of its separate branch since it demonstrates their great reserve capabilities and provides the nomination process. In article the structural and morphological features of neologisms of the mobile communication industry are investigated. The main attention is focused on the characteristic methods of neologism formation in English and German languages and determination of their productivity. Investigation is made on the material of two neologism selections of the telecommunication industry. Each selection contains 150 new words. Our research proved that the basis of the English neologisms of the telecommunication industry are word-formations. The overwhelming majority of them are presented by the bicomponent noun phrases. The number of abbreviations and hybrid constructions have increased as a result of the science and technology development. Derivation continues to produce neologisms in the mobile telecommunication industry. Such prefixes as de-, mis- and semi-suffixes as -holic and -phobic with the highly developed combining properties are the most common. Whereas neologism compounding is not typical for the English language telecommunication industry. It dominates in German language. Thus, the word-formation pattern “noun+noun”, “verb base+noun” can be distinguished as the most productive. The prefixation and suffixation are the main word formation methods of German neologisms in the telecommunication industry. Although, compounding and abbreviation have not become such popular as in English language, nevertheless they belong to the main neologism formation methods. In consequence of our research it can be concluded that the overwhelming majority of the new words in both languages are nouns since the vocabulary extends commonly by the object and phenomena names.
