Work Environment, Commitment, and Patient Holistic Care among Nurses
Journal Title: Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal - Year 2025, Vol 35, Issue 5
Abstract
The study investigates the interplay between the working environment, nurses' commitment, and patient holistic care in level 1 hospitals in Bukidnon, Philippines, using a descriptive correlational approach. Survey data from 127 nurses reveal positive perceptions of their working environment, including staffing adequacy, collaborative physician-nurse relationships, and organizational support. Nurses exhibit high levels of commitment across various dimensions. Patient holistic care generally scores positively, with areas for improvement identified in pain management and psychosocial support. Significant relationships are observed between patient care and both the working environment and nurses' commitment, highlighting the complexity of these dynamics. Although no significant correlation is found between patient care and the working environment or commitment, strategic recommendations are proposed. These include addressing nurse staffing concerns, fostering a collaborative culture, implementing targeted training programs for holistic care, conducting further research on underlying correlating factors, and instituting continuous education and assessment initiatives. These recommendations aim to enhance the quality of care, promote nurse well-being, and ensure patient-centered healthcare delivery in Bukidnon's private hospitals.
