Abstract

Preliminary results of the studies on the distribution of club-mosses (Lycopodiaceae) in the Stołowe Mts. (Central Sudetes) Chorological-geobotanical studies on club-mosses were carried out in the Stołowe Mts. (Central Sudetes) in 2007-17. A total of 151 sites were found, with three species: Huperzia selago (L.) Holub., Lycopodium annotinum L. and Lycopodium clavatum L.: 136 of them within the National Park of Stołowe Mts., and only 15 outside its boundaries. The sites are situated in the ATPOL squares BF13, BF14, BF15, BF24, BF25. The number of records for individual species is: Huperzia selago – 64, Lycopodium annotinum – 39, Lycopodium clavatum – 48. The size of the areas occupied by the club-mosses varies widely: from 0.01 m2 to more than 10 m2. The largest colonies are formed by Lycopodium clavatum. Huperzia selago most often grows on boulders and large blocks (55 sites), rarely directly on the ground (9 sites). The largest concentration of colonies of Huperzia selago is found east of Szczeliniec Wielki (Fig. 1). In most of the colonies of the species propagules were observed on top of the shoots which is characteristic of montane populations (Gola 2008). The control of all the sites in 2017 revealed disappearance of 22 colonies. The reasons for the disappearance include natural, biotic and abiotic, factors, as well as anthropogenic ones (Table 2). Also dying out of shoots was observed, especially of Lycopodium annotinum, which might be caused by pathogenic fungi, but the problem requires further studies.
