Abstract
Rafał Stobiecki FROM THE HISTORY OF A CERTAIN PROJECT “SOCIALIST UNIVERSITY IN WORKING CLASS CITY OF ŁÓDŹ” The aim or the article is to present an important part of the postwar history of the University of Łódź. The author is concentrated on the process of stalinization (1949–1956) affecting all universities both in Poland and in other countries that had been subdued into submission by the Soviet Union. At that time, the new authorities of the University of Łódź – partly for opportunistic reasons and partly because of their true commitment to the ideals of socialism – declared their willingness to build „socialist university in the proletarian city of Łódź”. It was supposed to be a university capable of meeting challenges of a new and „truly revolutionary era”.
