Zaparcie się św. Piotra. Analiza mimetyczna

Journal Title: Cywilizacja i Polityka - Year 2014, Vol 12, Issue 12

Abstract

This article is a mimetic analysis of the biblical account of St. Peter’s denial. Because the community of Jesus and his disciples disintegrated Peter looks for another one. It seems to him that he had found new friends in the courtyard of the high priest’s palace. Being in their company does not last long. Peter is recognized as an uninvited foreigner and intruder. Peter tries to defend himself. His behavior is marked with a mimetic mechanism. He rejects his Master because he hopes in this way he will regain his new friends. Peter’s attitude is not unique. Rather it is a kind of clichés which is reproduced by all those seeking refuge and acceptance in a new community. Anyone who has experienced the loss of community and is looking for a new one – whether it is a ‘new’ in the classroom or an immigrant in a foreign land – will re-enact, to some extent, Peter’s history.
