Abstract
Source materials for history of Kościuszko Uprising in the fonds of Russian State Historical Archive and National Library of Russia in St. Petersburg. Russian archives preserve an enormous amount of source materials exceedingly important for researchers of Polish history and history of Polish-Russian relations. This includes documents illustrating the course of Kościuszko Uprising. This article is a result of a query conducted in Russian State Historical Archive in St Petersburg (RGIA) and in Manuscripts Section of National Library of Russia in St. Petersburg in 2016-2017. Most of the documents found here even in 19th century were since moved from Petersburg to Moscow or revindicated to Poland. Nonetheless, the aforementioned institutions still preserve materials of great historical value and should be fully used by Polish researchers. In RGIA’s fonds, particularly noteworthy documents include letters of important participants of Kościuszko Uprising, gathered in Paskiewicz-Erywanski collection. Some individual letters by Nikolai Repnin or Karl Nassau-Siegen from 1794 also deserve attention. One particularly important letter by prince K. Nassau-Siegen, dated 3 (14) July 1794 is included verbatim as annex to the article. In case of fonds of the National Library of Russia in St. Petersburg, of greatest research value is the group of 12 archival units, illustrating the course of Kościuszko Uprising in Lithuania. The materials can be divided into three groups: the first are protocols presenting the activity of General Michał Wielhorski between 13 June and 30 July 1794; the second comprises sources illustrating activities of various sections of Grodno Powiat Order Commission in the period 19 May to 1 October 1794; the third group are documents produced by various departments of central bodies of Uprising authorities in Lithuania between 25 April to 1 October 1794. One particularly valuable document is the journal of Public Safety Deputation, covering the entire period of operation of this department of Supreme Lithuanian Council. It is worth publishing, due to wealth of information it contains. Dissemination of knowledge about the sources and places where they are preserved may contribute to better research of the course of Kościuszko Uprising, in particular in the Great Duchy of Lithuania.
