Journal Title: The Journal of International Social Research - Year 2017, Vol 10, Issue 52

Abstract

The need to compare something one is one of the important powers placed in human creation. Man compares everything and tries to identify similarities and differences between those two elements. This comparative effort, which can be applied in every field of life, has become a discipline which has been valid in recent years in the field of art in general and literature in particular. The method of comparative study among literary texts that first started in western literature has been seen in Turkish literature in recent years and important studies have begun to be made. The topics of the poems written by Mehmet Âkif and Tevfik Fikret, two magnificent poets, who left a great influence on their period and their subsequent generations, have sometimes intersected. The fact that some political opinions are different and the fact that they participated unwillingly the fight that develops around the "Tarih-i Kadim" poem has led to their being shown as common thoughts as if they seemed to be exactly the opposite of each other. However, these two precious poets who moved their pens for social justice for society wrote poetry around poverty social thought, one of the main wounds of the society. In these poems, they shared similar thoughts. One of these poems is "Bayram" and “ Halûk’s Bayram". In this work we tried to address the social poverty which is tried to be shown in the festivals in the poems written by Fikret who is the main pillar of the poetry of Servet-ı Fünûn and almost the cause of existence and Âkif, who represents originality with his independent style. We will examine these two poems comparatively in terms of content, style and form and will try to show the similarities and differences in the way these two poets treat the same theme of these two poets belonging to the same age and conditions.
