A INFLUÊNCIA DAS CRENÇAS NO APRENDIZADO DE LÍNGUA INGLESA: UM ESTUDO COMPARATIVO ENTRE ESTUDANTES BRASILEIROS E PORTUGUESES

Abstract
This article is an excerpt from the author’s master’s thesis that includes, among other topics, beliefs in relation to the English language learning, an agenda which has been discussed in the field of applied linguistics in recent decades. It is an analysis of the data obtained through a comparative study between Brazilian and Portuguese students using a beliefs inventory and a semi-structured interview as instruments. When comparing the study of English in Brazil to the one in such a different context, having in common the Portuguese language as their mother tongue, the results present similarities and distinctions favoring a reflection and an understanding in the way students perceive the teaching and learning process, in other words, their beliefs, which may influence directly or indirectly both the successes and the difficulties in learning.
