Typhoid is a bacterial disease caused by mainly Salmonella typhi which are gram negative bacterial rods and the infection occurs due to mainly by the ingestion of food or water contaminated with faeces of infected persons which contain the bacteria parasite. This study was done to investigate the prevalence of Widal positivity in a tertiary care hospital i.e at Malla Reddy Medical College for Women, Hyderabad. In this study all those patients who have been suspected by doctors with symptoms like fever, weakness and headache were tested by using serum samples through Widal test and data of about one year have been analyzed using percentage and proportions. A total of 14400 samples were tested , of which 1390 were found positive for typhoid. So the overall prevalence of typhoid fever is 9.6% and children (0-10years) mere maximally affected group (58.2%). In this study prevalence of typhoid was maximum among children, so immunization against typhoid will reduce the seriousness and reduce this infection among children.
