Nutritional Status of Primary School Children, Suraram, India

Abstract

The Purpose of the study was to assess nutritional status among children of Primary school. A Cross-sectional study was carried out among Primary school children at Zilla Parishad Primary School, Suraram. Anthropometric measurements were taken in addition to clinical examination. Data was collected using a structured questionnaire. Wasting and Stunting was measured in numbers, percentages and chi-square test was used to check for variation among various groups. Total of 121subjects were aged 7-13 yrs, mean age of 9.45 and S.D of 1.310. Maximum 97(80.1%) 8-10yrs; 60 boys, 61girls; mean height of both boys and girls was 123 cm with a S.D of 9.694; mean weight was 22.84 K.G with a S.D of 4.579; overall prevalence of stunting 73.5 % and wasting 42.1%. There was no significance of differences of age, gender with wasting and stunting (p>0.05). School Health program must be integrated with national food and nutrition Policies to support, rectify nutrition deficiencies among these primary school children.
