Abdullah Bahâyî Efendi ve Cevâmi’ü’l-Hikâyât ve Levâmi’ü’r-Rivâyât Tercümesi

Abstract
The prose stories that are written within the tradition of classical Turkish literature generally try to reveal "ideal" human characteristics. There are many story books created in this tradition. Among these books, one of the most voluminous work is Cevâmi'ü'l-Hikâyât and Levâmi'ü'r-Rivâyât, compiled by Muhammed Avfi. In this corpus which is written in Persian, there are stories touching many points of life from politics to morality, from faith to prayer, from history to geography. This work of Avfî was translated into Turkish by Celâl-zâde Sâlih Çelebi in the 16th century. However, some of this works have also been translated into Turkish by Abdullah Bahâyî Efendi, one of the 16th-century poets and ediplers. Although Celâl-zâde Sâlih Çelebi translated the work completely into Turkish, Abdullah Bahâyî Efendi stated that between 2 and 16 Babes of the Third Part of the work had not been translated by Sâlih Çelebi. Therefore, Kanûnî handed the remaining parts to Abdullah Bahâyî Efendi to translate them into Turkish and he translated the stated Babes. In this study, Abdullah Bahâyî Efendi's life will be explained, then translator’s Cevâmi'ü'l-Hikâyât ve Levâmi'ü'r-Rivâyât Translation (3rd Section 2-16) will be introduced.
