ACTIVITY OF OMELYAN PRITSAK IN SCIENTIFIC INSTITUTIONS

Abstract
The article is devoted to the study of scientifical and organizational activity of O. Pritsak, from the 1940s to the end of 1990s. The key directions of his activity in the development of historical science both abroad and in Ukraine on the basis of materials from the personal archive of the scientist are highlighted. The aim of the article is to study the activity of the histo- rian in scientific institutions of Ukraine and in the world. The result of the study shows O. Pritsak as a prominent scholar who has made a great contribution to the development of Oriental studies in general and to Turkology in particular, as well as an ideologue and founder of the Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute, which was perhaps the greatest achievement in his life. A professional historian is characterized not only by his works, but also by activities in scientific institutions. Indeed, it is the scientific and organizational activity that enables to combine the theory and practice of historical research, to popularize its further continuation and development, to involve as many interested persons as possible in the study of a particular problem by opening research institutions, establishing professional scientific periodicals, conducting sem- inars and conferences. These characteristics of scientific and organizational activities can be applied to O. Pritsak. The coverage of the chosen topic is relevant, since it enables one to assess in a holistic way the scientific achievements of the scientist and the significance of his activity for the development of historical science in Ukraine and in the world. There are no special studies devoted directly to the topic of the article. But there are articles and works that reveal certain aspects of the work of O. Pritsak or are devoted to the coverage of the activities of certain scientific institutions, in which the scientist participated. The purpose of the paper is a comprehensive study of the historian's activities in the scientific institutions of Ukraine and of the world using the following methods: chronological, comparative, analysis and synthesis.
