Abstract

The competency-based approach is one of the most adopted teaching methodologies around the world, including Algeria which applied the BMD system as a step to revise curricula and give more importance to the learner’s competence. The competency-based approach was differently adopted in the different disciplines. The departments of languages in Algeria were among the first to adopt this approach by integrating the LMD system, while the departments of Translation has adopted it ten years later, by opening Master and Doctorate programs. The main problem is not who first adopted it, as much as how we can adapt effectively with the changes in the teaching methodologies and fulfil the purposes intended from them. This research paper is subscribed under a research group working on ‘Developing translation competence, an empirical study and modern approaches, university of Algiers2. We aim to highlight the importance of the competency-based approach in Translation, mainly by developing translation competence. We attempt also to raise the teachers’ awareness of and adaptation with the adopted approaches by the teaching organisms in Algeria in order to attain the expected aims from the learning process.
