Analysis on articles and author groups in Journal of Henan Agricultural University from 2011 to 2020

Abstract

[Objective] The objective of this paper was to comprehensively understand the features and changing laws of articles and authors of the Journal of Henan Agricultural University (Here in after referred to as the Journal), and further to provide reference for the Journal to organize and invite manuscripts, establish a stable author team, and improve academic influence. [Methods] By using the method of bibliometrics, the changing laws, features and academic influence of the amount, length and discipline distribution of the Journal were analyzed. [Results] The results were as follows: (1) From 2011 to 2020, 1443 papers were published in the Journal, including 858 from inside the Henan Agricultural University and 585 from outside the Henan Agricultural University, accounting for 59.36% and 40.64% of the total number of papers respectively. The average page number of manuscripts increased year by year. (2) The papers published in the Journal covered 13 subject categories, among which the agricultural science category had the largest number of 842 papers. There were 1428 papers funded by projects, of which the proportion of papers funded by the foundations of national and provincial-levels was as high as 90.30%. (3) The authors were widely distributed in 29 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities across the country. The Journal articles were mainly from colleges and universities, followed by scientific research institutes. (4) The average co-authoring rate was 95.08%, with 4-7 co-authors being the most. There were only 44 core authors, despite a broad base of authors. The number of authors aged 39 and below was the largest, accounting for 78.10%. The main authors groups of the Journal were postgraduates and teachers with intermediate and deputy senior titles. (5) The compound impact factor of the Journal fluctuated and decreased after 2012, but began to rise after 2018 and rose rapidly in 2019, reaching 1.387 in 2020, which created a new high record for the compound impact factor in the past 10 years. The number of downloads, the annual download rate of web and the academic journal clout index (CI) had similar trends to that of the compound impact factor. [Conclusion] The purpose of running the journal needs to be strengthened, based in Henan and facing the whole country, steadily improving, and developing innovatively. The road of running the Journal with a characteristic needs to be emphasized. Every attempt should be made to attract high-quality manuscript sources and the academic influence should be continuously improved.
