ART OF CONTRAPUNTAL COMPOSITION

Abstract
The article deals with the prominent Ukrainian conductor Roman Kofman’s long short story “Pastoral Symphony”. The specific character and functions of its contrapuntal composition is the main goal of the exploration. Author of the paper provides an overview of the literary works by Kaufman and focuses on his story “Pastoral Symphony, or how I lived under the Germans.” This article takes a look at two plans in the work – modernity of it’s author and plan of historical past. So biografizm and reflection on the history are connected in literary work by Kaufman. Plan of biography – main events in author’s life: Kaufman, supervised the Kiev Chamber Orchestra, was Director of the Bonn Opera and Beethoven Symphony Orchestra in Germany/ It is a gifted musician and writer. Historical reflection in his work is related to the tragic events during the second world war/ It’s heroes are Jews, prisoners of concentration camp. They’re all musicians, which for the last time in their life on demand of the Commandant of the concentration camp and rehearsing music performance of Beethoven’s pastoral Symphony. The article refers to clear two auxiliary plans in the story, draws attention to the contrast, associated with music that musicians rehearse: opposition of the fate of musicians and romantic spirit of the music.
