Abstract

Identity is a concept that plays an important role in the political history of societies. There are groups within the society around this concept shaped by culture. Groups formed within societies play a carrier role in the formation and development of identities of those societies politically, socially, culturally or economically. The first grouping examples from 1878, when Cyprus entered the British administration, will be discussed. Groups in Cyprus will be analyzed by rational choice approach and common interest concepts. The grouping problem of Cypriot Muslims will be dealt with within the boundaries of the relationship between themselves and the dynamics of the UK's governing system. The data will be handled descriptively and interpreted analytically.
