Clinico-pathological study of male breast lesions

Abstract

Background: Male breast lesions are less common than female breast lesions, which include non-neoplastic inflammatory, benign and malignant neoplastic lesions. Aim: To study the clinico-pathological characteristics of breast lesions in male patients. Material and Methods: In this study a total of 75 surgically resected specimens of male breast lesions that were routinely received in the Department of surgical pathology were analysed. The histopathological finding were correlated with radiological findings, clinical findings and FNAC findings wherever available. Results: The most common clinical diagnosis in present study was gynaecomastia seen in 31 cases accounting for 73.8% of all the breast patients.Four (9.5%) cases were diagnosed as malignant breast lesion, out of which 2 were infiltrating ductal carcinoma, one was papillary neoplasm and one was myofibroblastoma. Conclusion: Gynecomastia was the most common breast lesionand Infiltrating Ductal Carcinoma was common among all malignant breast lesions. The percentage of malignant male breast lesions is increasing with time.
