Journal Title: Postępy Nauk Medycznych - Year 2011, Vol 24, Issue 9
Abstract
According to generally accepted rules for obesity and overweight treatment the reduction of caloric intake together with increase of energy expenditure are required. Dietary fat, protein and carbohydrates should provide 25-35%, 10-15% and 45-65% of total energy, respectively. Permanent adherence to dietary recommendation is necessary for body weight loss as well its maintenance. However the observation of dietary advice creates a lot of problems for many patients. Therefore the purpose of better acceptance and in consequence better results new dietary patterns are wanted. One example of them is low-carbohydrate and high-protein diet, which have become very popular nowadays. In spite of good effectivness it has been questioned by many specialists because of possible harmfulness for health eq. atherosclerosis and osteoporosis development as well liver and kidney injury.
