DIALECT DEVERBATIVES IN IVAN FRANKO’S LITERARY DISCOURSE

Abstract

In the given article the role as linguistic means is showed on the material of the dialectal words of verbal forming which at the same level form the writer’s idiostyle. I. Franko has developed a strategy for developing and enriching the vocabulary of the Ukrainian literary language, declared in numerous publications and realized by his own literary work. Dialecticisms are a significant component of the lexical and stylistic system that expresses the original features of the author’s language. The questions of the dialecticisms usage expediency by the author in the contexts ‒ reflection of the reality, reproduc- tion of local colouring, typification of the characters’ language, enriching the language, strengthening the emotionality and expressiveness of speech are highlighted. The use of the vocabulary from different styles, the expansion of the verbal palette due to dialectal words shows Franko’s ability to experiment with poetic language. Selected material shows the fre- quent use of derivatives to denote relationship, sound processes and peculiarities of behaviour, customs, labour processes, psychological and physical conditions, and communication processes. The author accumulates derivatives in one stanza or uses cognate words to enhance the image. This also enables him to condense the description. Phonetic dialecticisms stylistically expose texts. Nouns created by the author to denote different realities emotionally fill the vocabulary of works and are motivated by dialectal verbatives. Dialectal words don’t interfere with the under- standing of the contents of Franko’s works, which have become the achievement of a nation-wide culture. They serve as elements for expressing the style of the writer.
