DISCUSSIONS AND DISPUTES ABOUT THE INTRODUCTION OF COMPULSORY SCHOOLING FOR SIX-YEAR-OLD CHILDREN

Journal Title: Educational Psychology - Year 2014, Vol 47, Issue 5

Abstract

The article presents discussions and disputes over the implementation of an educational reform in Poland which lowers the school staring age to six. It shows three sides of this issue: six-year-olds' school readiness, people's attitudes to the reform and schools' readiness to implement it. These issues are presented in the context of educational changes which took place in Poland during the system transformation and in the context of demographic changes affecting the educational policy.
