Journal Title: Науковий і культурно-просвітній краєзнавчий часопис Галичина - Year 2017, Vol 29, Issue
Abstract
Іn the proposed study, through the prism of life and the many-sided heritage of Ivan Franko, the places of Drohobych, directly or indirectly connected with the great Ukrainian, are represented. Here, on the basis of materials from well-known and unknown archival sources and a large number of Franko-speaking studies, individual episodes from the life and work of Ivan Franko in Drohobych are reinterpreted in a new way. It is determined that Ivan Franko lived in Drogobych for eleven years – not so much and not so much, but during this period he walked from a teenager to a mature boy. The time spent by I. Franko in Drohobych is a study at the Drohobych Main School at the Holy Trinity Church (from September 1864 to the summer of 1867), and later at the Drohobych Gymnasium named after Franz-Joseph I (from the autumn of 1867 to summer of 1875). During his studies at the so-called normal school of the Basilian Fathers at the Holy Trinity Church in Drohobych, Franko-child suffered a lot of shocks: he was twice punished by the transfer to the "blind assortment", experiencing the cruelty that contemporary teachers used against the students, and the most painful moment for I. Franko became the death of his father Jacob. The last event was caused by the appearance of the first poetic work "Easter," which the author devoted to his breadwinner. Despite this, the little I. Franko, being a poor rural boy, managed not only to equal his privileged classmates, but also to surpass them. An example of this is only the fact that for his excellent teaching and his unrivaled ability, his name was three times included in the so-called "Golden Book" of the Basilian School at the Holy Trinity Church in Drohobych. Years of study at the Drohobych Gymnasium also did not pass without pain for I. Franko. Being in the sixth grade, he became a circular orphan – on June 1, 1873, his mother Mary died. But despite the fact that his means of subsistence have become too scanty, he actively and persistently tries to get all the bases of the science of that time. A striking example of this is that he had consistently high rankings among high school students-classmates (the evidence of Ivan Franko's success at the Drogobych High School confirms that he only occupied the first, second and third places). After his studies in Drohobych, I. Franko often visited the city, contacted with his friends, friends and comrades in Drohobych. One of the annoying moments in the life of Ivan Franko, which was connected with Drohobych, was his second arrest in 1880, when he spent the whole day in prison. It was hostile to I. Franko in 1897, when he was ballot at the elections to the Austrian Sejm as a deputy in the constituency Peremyshl – Mostyska – Rudki – Sambir – Drohobych – Pidbudzh. The entire election campaign of I. Franko, in particular in Drohobych, ended in complete defeat for him. Visiting Ivan Franko Drogobych June 5, 1902 Then he spoke at a working meeting. Last time, Drohobychs saw and heard Ivan Franko in February 1912, when he, with the assistance of V. Ratalsky, recited his poem “Moses”. All of I. Franko's creative heritage, in which he completely or brutally touched the topic of Drohobych, according to our calculations, makes up more than three dozen works, which are poetic, artistic and literary, historical, ethnographic, folklore, and journalistic. The considerable cost of the epistolary heritage from Drohobych correspondents to Ivan Franko (66 letters), which gives an opportunity to get acquainted with the little-known facts of life and activities of I. Franck and his recipients. Separate calculations require the published, recorded directly by Ivan Franko from the Drohobychs and not only ethnographic and folklore materials related to Drohobych.
