EFFECTIVENESS OF MODEL OF PROFESSIONAL FOREIGN LANGUAGE TRAINING FOR FUTURE SPECIALISTS OF TOURISM SCIENCE

Abstract
The problem of increasing the effectiveness of the professional foreign language communicative competence (PFLCC) formation of future tourism specialists in the context of reducing the number of the foreign language classes in higher educational institutions is considered. For this purpose, a didactic model of the professional foreign language training for tourism specialists has been developed. The model has a multi-component structure and consists of a target, theoretical and methodological, meaningful, organisational, effective and corrective components. The levels and criteria for assessing the formation of students’ PFLCC have been proposed. A complex experimental study (a pedagogical experiment) has been conducted in order to determine the effectiveness of the proposed model. For this purpose, 11 pairs of experimental and control groups have been formed. The mentioned model of the professional foreign language training has been used in the experimental groups while the traditional approaches in the control groups have been applied. The pedagogical experiment has been carried out in three stages. At the first stage, the initial PFLCC level of students has been assessed and the pairs of experimental and control groups have been formed. At the second stage, the proposed model has been implemented in the experimental groups. At the third stage, a reassess of the PFLCC formation of students has been carried out and their progress has been measured. To ensure the equality of the initial conditions in the experimental and control groups, a special algorithm for their formation that provided the statistical homogeneity of the groups’ pairs has been used. This statistical homogeneity has been verified on the basis of the Mann-Whitney statistical test. The progress in the PFLCC formation level (the difference in the means of marks in the groups at the first and third stages of the experiment) was significantly higher in the experimental groups. The reliability (statistical significance) of these differences is confirmed by the conclusions of the statistical heterogeneity of the evaluation results at the mentioned stages for the experimental groups with the Mann-Whitney test. The higher effectiveness of the proposed model of the professional foreign language training of future tourism specialists has been confirmed.
