Abstract
The article describes the Police Directorate of the Free City of Cracow as a bureaucratic institution. Particular attention was paid to the bureaucratic elements in the organization and activities of this body. It was pointed out that the Police Directorate was established on the basis of legal regulations and had clearly defined tasks, levels of division of labor, hierarchical structure, formal requirements for clerks employed in it, the principle of written documentation of official activities and impersonal work style. All this elements were to provide the professionalism of the Police Directorate, and it was to contribute to the more effective performance of tasks in the area of public order and safety in the Free City of Cracow
