Endowment Fund as an Alternative Source of Financing Higher Education

Abstract
The article discusses the essence, objectives, main features and purposes of establishing the endowment funds. Historical backgrounds and main stages of development of the largest and most famous endowment funds raised in the United States and Great Britain have been identified. Both the current state and development dynamics of the endowment, related to the Universities in the United States, has been analyzed. Also the current state and development of endowment in Russia is examined, following the adoption in 2006 of the law «On the order of formation and use of endowment funds of non-profit organizations». The basic models of managing the endowment funds, which emerged during their functioning, have been considered. Differences in the formation and management of endowment in the United States and in Russia are compared in accordance with their legal and regulatory frameworks. Development of endowment in Ukraine has been studied, problems in this area as well as measures to improve their formation and management, based on international experience, has been determined.
