Expansion in Higher Education and Faculty Supply in Turkey

Journal Title: Yükseköğretim ve Bilim Dergisi - Year 2011, Vol 1, Issue 1

Abstract

Various countries reform their higher education systems depending on the economic conditions, public demands, and the developments in higher education market. In order to meet the demands of higher education, Turkish higher education has been expanded dramatically in the last few years. While the most dramatic increase is in the number of students, the increase in the number of faculties has been relatively slow. The paper stresses that Turkish higher education has to invest in doctoral education and to come up with certain policies for the faculty development in order to sustain the growth in higher education.
