Abstract
Introduction. The paper focuses on the classification of Hungarian and Ukrainian phraseological units and idioms, revealing theoretical and practical aspects of somatic phraseologisms study in both languages. The research aims at the structural analysis of somatic phraseologisms and idioms, their semantic features and linguistic peculiarities. Special interest is paid to the contrasting analysis of the somatic phraseologisms functioning in Hungarian and Ukrainian. The novelty of the work lies in the object of given investigation as Hungarian and Ukrainian somatic phraseologisms in their contrasting study have not been in the focus of linguistic analysis yet. The main significance of the research is determined by classifying the somatic phraseologisms in Hungarian and Ukrainian on the basis of semantic criterion. The results of the research can be used in teaching lexicology, interpretation of the text and other disciplines as well as in working out special theoretical courses in contrastive study of Hungarian and Ukrainian phraseologisms. Convincingly proven in the paper is the conclusion that the number of subordinate structures with somatic phraseologisms is higher than the number of coordinate ones in both languages.
