Historiography navigation in the Azov Sea (the pre-revolutionary and Soviet period)

Abstract
The article analyzes the historiography of the period of the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union on the issue of shipping in the region of the Azov Sea. The main areas in which the study took place Azov shipping in second half of XIX century. The study outlined the problems occurred mainly in the context of the study of navigation in the South of Ukraine as a whole, focusing on the Azov Sea. The authors concluded that a purely scientific study of the problem starts only in the Soviet period, while the prerevolutionary period works were written in scientific-popular style, and the only stakeholders. Thus, the approach of marxist historiography was consequence of criticism attracting foreign capital in shipping and revealed mainly economic part of the studied questions.
