Journal Title: Atmadeep - Year 2024, Vol 1, Issue 2
Abstract
Humayun Ahmed, a prominent figure in the literary, cultural, and artistic landscape of Bangladesh, is renowned as a novelist, short story writer, essayist, playwright, filmmaker, and professor. His popularity has soared in the Bangladeshi literary world since the 1970s. One of his most celebrated novel series is 'Misir Ali'. A popular novel from this series is 'Misir Ali! Apni Kothay?'. The protagonist, Misir Ali, is a psychology professor and psychiatrist. People approach him with various problems. Misir Ali is highly trusted for his psychological counseling. Faruk, one of Misir Ali's students, approaches him with a complex issue. He believes his wife, Ayna, occasionally disappears into mirrors. Seeking a solution to this problem, Faruk turns to his beloved professor, Misir Ali. Faruk is convinced that only Misir Ali can unravel the mystery surrounding his wife. Through psychological examinations of Faruk and Ayna, Misir Ali resolves the issue. According to Misir Ali's analysis, the entire incident is a figment of Faruk's imagination. As a psychology student, Faruk is aware of the concept of 'delusion'. His wife, Ayna, has aided him in this delusion. Moreover, Faruk's wife's name is also Ayna, and he has a particular fascination with her. Considering all these factors, Faruk has delved into the world of delusion. Novelist Humayun Ahmed, in 'Misir Ali! Apni Kothay?', introduces a fictional scenario and provides a thorough analysis of it. The author presents each event through a subtle psychological analysis.
