Images of antique history in Ukrainian and Russian poetry of the end of the XIX to the beginning of XX centuries

Abstract
The article explores the lyrical interpretation of key images of ancient history in Ukrainian and Russian poetry at the turn of the 19th–20th centuries and features of national understanding of heroism and greatness. The author believes that we can speak of a tendency towards domination in the Russian mentality of “state-heroic”, imperial motives, while for the Ukrainian master of words is personal feelings of the person and cultural motivation are more important.
