Journal Title: Journal of Advanced Research in Journalism & Mass Communication - Year 2017, Vol 4, Issue 3
Abstract
A sudden availability of smart phones and mobile Internet has led to the spurt in the use of social media. It has emerged as a vital tool of communication and has created new ways of influencing public opinion and encouraging people’s participation in civic and political activities – like forming and joining social groups on Facebook, uploading videos on YouTube, expressing thoughts through blogs and tweeting. Current issues like violation of human rights, girl’s education, wrong deeds of political leaders, crime against women, corruption etc, are also well highlighted on social media for bringing revolution. We also know that the social media also gives a platform to stage the activities like protests which enable people to vent out their anger and dissatisfaction over any political or social issue. This has also enabled the people to closely monitor the activities of government as well of the corporate. This is the reason that most of the political parties, corporate and NGO’s are using social media for their campaigning, promotion and communication. This paper will focus on the positive as well as negative impact of the social media on the Indian youth.
