IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF MANAGEMENT DECISIONS IN SHIPPING COMPANIES
Journal Title: Проблеми системного підходу в економіці - Year 2018, Vol 4, Issue 66
Abstract
In the article, the directions for increasing the efficiency of vessel operation by means of improving the quality of management decisions are considered through the introduction of a system for supporting their adoption. It is determined that at the present stage in shipping companies this principle is practically not used because of the lack of a fully functional version of the toolkit for operational control of the fleet operation. The main problems of the existing planning systems for the activity of water transport enterprises are identified and directions for their development are formulated with the aim of increasing the efficiency of the transport process. The tasks of management in the system of planning and managing the work of a shipping company in new business conditions are identified, taking into account external risks that require constant monitoring of the situation and making adjustments to the company’s work planning. Simulation of planning decisions on the basis of automation allows providing positive effects and increasing the effectiveness of the main operational and economic criteria for the shipping company. An algorithm for the functioning of the decision support system is presented, which is based on the principles of continuous planning as one of the most important ways to increase the efficiency of making economic and managerial decisions and obtain tangible financial benefits. The solution to the problem of transition to continuous planning should be accompanied by the introduction of new technologies, through which a cumbersome and laborious planning process becomes a normal component of management at all levels of the management structure. The use of modern information technologies combined with the integrated approach to the problems of solving the listed tasks within the framework of the described system will make it possible to significantly improve the quality of the decisions made, to transfer the best management experience to current decisions, and to automate the planning process in relation to modern business environment. Implementation of the system of making managerial decisions into the practice of SC, built on the principles of continuous planning, will allow them not only to more flexibly respond to changes in external and internal factors of influence but also to consider the most possible variants of the course of events before they occurred. The latter is especially important in terms of growing competition in the market for transport services.
