Influence of pre-sowing red light stimulation on nutrients contents in winter rape seeds I. Basic nutrient contents

Journal Title: Rośliny Oleiste - Oilseed Crops - Year 2011, Vol 32, Issue 2

Abstract

The paper presents the research results of studies on basic nutrients (fat, protein, nitrogen-free extracts, ash and glucosinolanes) in relation to a cultivar, radiation and weather conditions. The research material comprised seeds obtained from a field trial. The experimental factors included the winter rape cultivars (Californium, Pomorzanin, Kronos, Spencer) as well as pre-sowing stimulation of seeds with red light emitted by an electromagnetic wave generator (EWG). Within each cultivar, there was distinguished a control combination (no radiation) and three objects with 1-, 3- and 5-time radiation.Under the study conditions, only the weather conditions were proven to affect the nutrients in winter rape seeds to the highest degree. The cultivar differences were shown only in glucosinolanes content.Basic nutrient content in winter rape seeds was significantly affected primarily by weather conditions. The intensity of the impact of experimental factors on nutrient contents in seeds in each research year was largely modified by meteorological conditions. Therefore, in many cases there were not recorded significant differences between the means from the three-year period. The experimental factors have been found not to affect basic nutrient levels in seeds (fat, protein, fibre, nitrogen-free extracts, ash). Cultivar differences were manifest only in glucosinolanes content. The top experimental and non-experimental factors affecting nutrient content in winter rape seeds can be ordered as follows: habitat conditions, cultivar and radiation.
