Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (IP): A Paradigm Shift to change Survival in Advanced Epithelial Ovarian Cancer
Journal Title: Gujarat Medical Journal - Year 2017, Vol 72, Issue 1
Abstract
Epithelial ovarian carcinoma (EOC) is usually diagnosed in advanced stage (stage III and IV). EOC is a leading cause of death from gynecologic malignancies in females. The management of the advanced epithelial ovarian cancer is cytoreductive surgery and intravenous chemotherapy. After this treatment also large number of EOC patients recurs in one to three years. There is a need for improvement in the treatment of EOC. Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (IP) administration is a newer modality of treatment for EOC with improved survival benefits. We report the first case performed in Gujarat of EOCstage III who had neoadjuvant chemotherapy and interval optimal cytoreductive surgery followed by intraperitoneal chemotherapy.
