Investigation of Dry Friction Wear Behavior of Zinc-Aluminum (ZnA) Alloys Produced by Mechanical Alloying
Journal Title: Gazi Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri Dergisi Part C: Tasarım ve Teknoloji - Year 2014, Vol 2, Issue 4
Abstract
ZA alloy powders having different compositions were prepared by mechanical alloying in a spex mill. The mechanical alloying was applied 5 to 8 h and the ball to powder weight ratio was kept at 10:1 by weight. The mechanical milled/alloyed powders were warm-compacted at 320 °C and were sintered at the same temperature for 2 h. After the sintering process, the dry sliding wear test of the ZA alloys were conducted on a pin on disc wear testing machine. The wear load, the sliding speed and total sliding distance were sustained at 10 N, 1 m/s and 600 m respectively for all specimens. The Vickers hardness values of the ZA alloys varied from ~78 HV to ~145 HV depending on the increase in Aluminum content; however these values were steady by increasing milling time. It was seen that the wear volume rate and the sliding coefficient decreased as a consequence of increasing Aluminum content and hardness.
