Investigation of Power Generation System Driven by Wind and Sea Flow Energy

Abstract

Wind and sea are renewable sources of energy with high energy potential. The sea/oceans have more than one type of energy such as wind, wave, tide, flow. The purpose of this work is to design a system that will convert multiple sources of energy into electricity. A platform with a high-potential hybrid power generation system model that utilizes wind and sea flow energy has been established. However, since the output characteristic of renewable energy sources depends on the natural conditions, it produces intermittent and unstable energy production. Hybrid energy storage units have been added to regulate the unstable output of these sources. A hybrid energy storage unit consisting of a battery and an ultracapacitor is added to the hybrid power generation system to provide a high quality and continuous energy requirement on the load. In addition, the ultracapacitor group in the hybrid energy storage unit is indicated by simulation studies that prevent the deep discharge and the voltage collapse by supporting the battery in the system under sudden load situations. In this study, all units are simulated using hybrid energy production system and hybrid energy storage system MATLAB/Simulink program. The smart energy management algorithm, which is originally written to the system, continuously calculates all the power parameters by controlling the DC/DC converter and inverter circuits. In this paper, the case where the demand load energy is higher than the energy produced by the hybrid power generation system is examined and current, voltage and power graphical results are given in detail. As a result of this investigation, it has been found that the ultracapacitor is switched on in the event of a sudden load, preventing the battery from being deep discharged.
