Abstract
Presented in the article the notion of human dignity comprises reflections of semiotic and methodological nature. These reflections revolve around the attempt of understanding the general view concerning human dignity. After terminology analysis of the notion, the author concentrates on the issue of dignity from the factual perspective. In response to some fundamental questions he carries out particularly the analysis of the definition of human dignity, ontological and cultural type of dignity, its functions, as well as the methodological status of knowledge of human dignity. Undertaking of these issues is justified, as the author indicates, due to frequent abuse of the notion of dignity in ideological discussions.
