LEVEL OF MOTOR ACTIVITY IN THE CONTEXT OF SYSTEMATIC MOTOR ACTIVITY AS AN ELEMENT OF PRO-HEALTHY LIFESTYLE, BASED ON STUDENTS SELF-OPINION

Abstract

Background. The aim of the work was to compare students' level of motor acitivity (declared by them) to significance of systematic physical activity as a pro-healthy lifestyle element. The results was analyzed according to independent variables such as sex of respondents and their major of studies. Material and methods. The research was conducted in the High Vocational School in Leszno and included a group of 513 students (252 women and 261 men). The aim of the research was to examine the relation between the student's self evaluation of their motor activity and the presented attitude to prohealthy lifestyle. The presented results refer to first year students of undergraduate studies in six specialties taught in the chairs of: Physical Education, Music, Technical Sciences, Tourism, Agriculture and Economy and Educational Sciences. They constitute a part of the broader research into recreational activity of students of all years in the High Vocational School in Leszno. The research was conducted in the year 2004 by means of auditorial survey. The analyze the data the authors used describing statistics ranging and graphic methods. Results. The results shows that the physical education major students evaluated their level of motor activity as good and very good- contrary to students from other majors. The good level declared mainly man (students of physical education major) and woman (tourism major). Students from others majors declared lower meaning of physical activity as an element of pro-healthy lifestyle. Conclusions. On the basis on the research we can draw a conclusion, that students of the majors connected with physical activity and leisure organization notice strong relation and connection between physical activity and health. What is more, the choice of studies is also connected with the knowledge of the role pf physical activity in preventing the effects of a civilization lifestyle.
