Lixisenatide: GLP-1 (glucagon like peptide) analogue for type 2 diabetes mellitus

Abstract

GLP-1 analogues increase insulin sensitivity and decrease hepatic gluconeogenesis, thereby bringing down the blood sugar levels. Lixisenatide is the newest of the GLP-1 analogues to get USFDA approval for its use in the treatment of patients of type 2 diabetes mellitus, along with dietary measures and exercise.
