Mapping and foresight – some methodological aspects of one of the research trends in management science

Abstract
Thinking about the future and planning for it has long been the subject of management. In this context, different approaches are of interest, one of today's is foresight, often mixed with strategic management. What distinguishes foresight from the traditional planning system is the use of systematic methods in it, which cover a large range of dates and include aspects of social participation. The methodology in foresight projects are often complex schemes involving multiple methods.The paper considers the theme of foresight studies, focusing on selected aspects of the methodology, called mapping. The author describes the nature of foresight studies and pro-ject methodologies, also in the context of technology. Most of the attention is focused on two methods of mapping: technology mapping and technology roadmapping, as interesting research threads. The purpose of this article was a preliminary recognition in this research area.
