Stress triaxiality influence on damaging micromechanisms in a pearlitic ductile cast iron
Journal Title: Frattura ed Integrità Strutturale - Year 2014, Vol 8, Issue 30
Abstract
In the last decades, damaging micromechanisms in ductile cast irons (DCIs) have been widely investigated, considering both the matrix microstructure and the loading conditions influence. Considering the graphite nodules, they were initially considered as voids embedded and growing in a ductile metal matrix (especially considering ferritic ductile cast irons). Recent experimental results allowed to identify a more complex role played by the graphite nodules, depending on the matrix microstructure. In this work, damaging micromechanisms in a pearlitic DCI were investigated by means of tensile tests performed on notched specimen, mainly focusing the role played by graphite elements and considering the stress triaxiality influence.

Crack front segmentation under combined mode I- and mode III- loading
This article approaches the topic of crack initiation and crack growth behaviour under combined mode I- and mode III-loading conditions. Such loading combinations especially lead to a crack, which unscrew out...
Fatigue life prediction of casing welded pipes by using the extended finite element method
The extended finite element (XFEM) method has been used to simulate fatigue crack growth in casing pipe, made of API J55 steel by high-frequency welding, in order estimate its structural integrity and life. B...
Limit analysis on FRP-strengthened RC members
Reinforced concrete (RC) members strengthened with externally bonded fiber-reinforced-polymer(FRP) plates are numerically investigated by a plasticity-based limit analysis approach. The key-concept of thepresent ap...
Cracks path growth in turbine blades with TBC under thermo – mechanical cyclic loadings
Blades of combustion turbines are extremely loaded turbojet elements, which transmit operative energy onto a rotor. Experiences of many years indicate, that cracks initiation and propagation in the blades dur...
