New genus of Coccidulini (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) inhabitant tree cavities in the Valdivian Temperate Rainforest of southern Chile

Abstract

Arborantrum fierroi, n. gen. and n. sp. (Coccinellidae: Coccidulini), inhabitant of the cavities and trunks of living trees, in the Valdivian Temperate Rainforest of southern Chile, is described and illustrated. Apart from its extraordinary habitat, the genus presents interesting morphological characteristics, which are unique among the Coccidulini tribe.
